Slide 1: ==== ==== Aquaponics is truly a revolution in gardening to your own food, check this out http://bd00c2wo6m-v9n1vsrejrkw7yc.hop.clickbank.net/ ==== ==== We've all heard the cliché getting your cake and icing too, but have you ever heard eating your garden-grown vegetables and fish, too? If not, then you're probably not familiar with aquaponics garden systems. Aquaponics is a completely sustainable food production system that's cultivated in a symbiotic "green" environment. The centuries-old system combines aquaculture such as raising fish and crayfish in appropriate holding tanks while providing a conducive environment to cultivate plants in water, or hydroponics. In laymen terms, by combining aquaculture with hydroponics, the plants in the aquatic environment keep it clean and the waste products produced from the fish is utilized as feed and fertilizer for the vegetation. The system requires minimum maintenance and promotes selfcleaning, however, aquaponics systems do require some time and effort into maintaining the overall balance and synergy of the system to yield optimal results. The Three Essentials of Aquaponic Systems When considering balancing the self-sustaining system there are three essentials you'll discover that you need to know when getting started with aquaponics: vegetation, fish, and bacteria. The purpose of the vegetation is to work as a continuous natural water filter to clean and purify the water. Plants also prevent the buildup of toxins including ammonia and nitrates which both are potentially lethal to fish. The by-products of the fish serve as food and vital nutrients required for sustainability and optimal growth. Finally, the active role of the bacteria is to benefit both the vegetation and fish as each is dependent on it to decompose the excess amounts of ammonia into nitrates. Vegetation is only able to absorb nitrates once it's broken down. Regulating the Natural Balance Fish Aside from determining the location and size of your aquaponics system, the next step is attempting to regulate the natural balance starting with the decision of which aquaponics fish is best suited for your self-sustaining system. The most common species of fish grown in warmer aquaponics is tilapia. These are popular choices for several reasons. The freshwater fish is adaptable to various sizes of aquaponics projects. Also, the species of fish are known to grow quickly, considered a delicacy and rather a hardy and resilient species that have the ability to withstand less than ideal conditions. It's important before purchasing tilapia to your aquaponics system that you first check with local law enforcement guidelines to make sure it's legal to raise them in your backyards. Calculating the number of fish to add to the holding tank of the aquaponics system is often a
Slide 2: daunting task. While the quantity of stock varies depending upon filtration pumps used and available space, there's a general standard. The rule of thumb for small-scale endeavors recommends two gallons of water in each individual tank for every pound of fish added to the existing tank. Vegetation Balancing the amount of vegetation is as equally important as regulating the fish population for an optimal aquaponics system. There are some things to help guide balancing vegetation: • How much feed do the fish eat per day? • How much feed is left over for the plants? • Size, weight and age of the fish. • Total amount of fish population in holding tank. • What type of vegetation will be grown? Due to the fact that aquaponics systems produce such a wide variety of fruit and vegetable produce, it's difficult to follow cookie-cutter instructions; however, there are some basic guidelines to keep in mind. It's essential that vegetable plants get enough fish by-products and nitrates in order to thrive. By the same token, however, overfeeding the fish can prove to be disastrous. The excess feed causes the water to become toxic to fish and vegetation. Although initially learning how to get started with aquaponics may seem overwhelming, it's actually a rewarding venture that only requires an understanding of how to maintain the natural balance of the self-sustaining system to provide eco-friendly and delicious food items to your family and friends!
