Slide 1: ==== ==== For a huge selection of FREE videos about air brushing please visit our site. http://foryourinformation.info/videos/airbrushing/ ==== ==== Airbrushing is a very simple way to colour and / or decorate a cake - in fact it is probably the quickest and most inexpensive method to add colour to a cake, and you can have a lot of fun as well! If the airbrush is used frequently you will soon see a return on your investment. There are so many EU rules and regulations regarding the amount of certain colours you are allowed to use in icing, it makes the use of an airbrush an extremely attractive option for the serious cake decorator. All you need to start with is a blank canvas - in other words, just ice your cake with a smooth white, or pastel icing of your choice. An airbrush may also be used for decorative effects on components of a cake. Or perhaps you have iced some cookies and wish to add colour to the icing. Have you thought of spraying sugar flowers and leaves? All sorts of creative effects can be achieved! It is important when researching airbrush machines to ensure that you look only at ones manufactured specifically for cakes, and prices do vary, so it is well worth looking around before buying. Also make sure you use only edible food colours in the airbrush, and do not use it with other crafting paints. So how does an airbrush work? The kit consists of a mini air compressor (preferably with 3 pressure settings), a gravity feed airbrush, and an airbrush holder. Some kits also include a starter set of colours. To use, choose a colour and fill the airbrush chamber. Point at the cake and gently pull the trigger. Keep at an angle of 45° for a soft, delicate finish, and about 8-9" away from the surface to be sprayed. For fine lines or more defined shapes, hold at an angle of 90° closer to the surface. All kits come with simple, easy-to-follow instructions. Here are a few handy hints to consider before using an airbrush:Always plan your design well before starting - one colour at a time in the correct order for the planned design. Use old newspapers to mask the surrounding area, or you may end up with coloured walls, worksurfaces and floor! Always clean the machine with water or cleaner each time the colour is to be changed, and ensure the line and needle are kept clean at all times. It is important to practice well before using on a cake. Try out on kitchen paper or similar to get the

Colours can be darkened by spraying for a second or third time, allowing them to dry in between sprays. Use other decorations to add height, interest and definition. Designs can be outlined with a dark colour (mixing all leftover colours together will make black!). Use an airbrush for a quick background to a design. So, with a little planning, airbrushing is quick, it is easy, but above all it is a really fun way to decorate a cake, and with practice, you could become extremely proficient! Why not give it a go?
