Tubers are foods like potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, yautia (malanga) it's related to the taro root. The most commonly eaten Legumes are beans, peas, lentils, soy, peanuts, alfalfa, mesquite. Legumes are also high in protein and are very healthy to eat. Poultry of course is domesticated fowl like chicken, turkey and ducks. Chicken and turkey are generally low in fat, but today that also depends on how the animals have been raised. Free ranging chickens and turkeys will generally have less fat. Either way trim excess fat to have as lean a bird as possible. Duck is a very high in fat and has the fat distributed throughout the muscle fiber, so it's not the type of bird you should include in your meal plan if you're looking to reduce the fat in your diet.
Slide 2: Meats are high in protein so they should not be eliminated from you meals; and though there's a lot of talk about how bad meat is for you, the problem stems from animals not being raised in their normal environment and allowed to graze on grasses and plants. Most animals today are caged raised, fed antibiotics and substances that are not part of their normal diet. As a result you get meat that is not lean, but that has lots of fat in the muscle tissue. This fat must be trimmed away and when cooked drain away any excess fat. If possible try to purchase meat that come from free ranging animals and that have been grass fed, as this meat is much lower in fat. The meats that are commonly available are beef, pork, lamb, bison, goat. Fish is all around good for you, it contains Omega 3 fatty acid which is essential for lowering cholesterol, is essential for eye and brain development and is credited in decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Fish is also a great source of lean protein. Food is an essential aspect in your weight loss regiment along with a good exercise program.
