Slide 2: Overview My name is Ignacio Arcas I started school in 1980 in Nerja, Spain I graduated from high school in 1993 in Oregon I first went to college at the University of Portland in 1993 When I finish my degree, I hope to become a District Educational Technology Specialist
Slide 3: My definition of educational technology … is the dissemination of information in various modes, the ability to use technological resources, and the utilization of strong leadership skills to improve the quality of education.

Slide 5: Kindergarten technology • IBM Computers hit the market for the first time. Not in Spain until 85-86. • We had a choice between VHS and Betamax (rarely available at school) • Music was now portable
Slide 6: High school technology •The first laptops come out during my high school days. •Macintosh computers started to populate our schools •I learned BASIC that allowed me to create a computer program. A ball would cross my screen from corner to corner.
Slide 7: College technology • The Internet and email became part of our lives. • Mosaic and Pine were the early browser and email programs. • HTML was the new language to learn. • From black & white to full color computers. • Doom was “it”.
Slide 8: A vivid technology learning experience    The Internet became public and widely used. The cell phone became manageable in size and price. 1.44mb disk was the beginning of everything small and powerful.
Slide 9: A technology I want to use in my classroom  I would like to have a fully interactive classroom, that would allow my students to communicate and create authentic learning experiences.
Slide 10: My vision of the classroom of the future   School buildings and classrooms will no longer be the norm. Students will have access to any course, anywhere, in any language or setting. (Spanish taught in Spain by a Spanish Professor)
Slide 11: A challenge for teaching  The lack of funding and training in the educational system will always act as a barrier to obtain the kind of technology and experiences our students are accustomed to.
