Manfrotto 055XPROB Pro Tripod Legs - The 055XPROB makes the famous Manfrotto-patented horizontal center column feature even easier to use. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, it can be swung around to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself, so switching between framing and positioning setups is more convenient than ever. The ergonomics of the leg angle release mechanism and the quick action leg locks themselves have also been greatly improved.

Slide 1: Tripods come in various sizes with varying degrees of movement. Tripods actually consist of two main pieces--the legs and the head. The average consumer tripod has these two pieces made together, but on higher end tripods each part gets purchased separately. A typical DSLR camera weighs around 2 lbs., add a few accessories like a flash and long lens and you'll need a tripod that can securely manage the equipment load. Tripod Basics A basic tripod usually has aluminum legs, a pan and tilt head and a brace connecting the legs to the center column. Move up to a more expensive tripod and you'll find legs made from carbon fiber, magnesium and other light weight durable materials, center columns that reverse for getting your camera lower to the ground and sections sealed against dust and moisture. You'll also find a wide assortment of heads including ballheads, three-way and five-way pan heads and also pistol grip heads. Tripods can cost as much as $1000 or more, but the vast majority cost under $250. Tripods Below $100 In the under $100 range, a few tripod models exist that really stand out from the rest.
