I had an older digital video camera with a firewire 400 cable. Just bought new Macbook Pro, which only has firewire 800 input. Did some research & I first bought a cable that stated it went from 800 to 400. It did, but both ends were male. Had to return it. Went to local electronics stores & they were not helpful. Most didn't even know this product existed & they tried to sell me other cables for 20 bucks each! This $8 adapter is ALL you need to go from 400 firewire device into 800 port. Don't let anyone sell you anything else. Just transferred hours of video & it worked great!
