You could be a chronic dieter; New Year dieter or the I need to look good for an event dieter. No matter what the reason is we still have the same goal, we want to lose the weight and keep it off permanently. So what is the perfect diet? There isn't one. The best way to lose weight is to not diet at all. There isn't a once size fits all guaranteed weight loss system. I don't care if it's backed by a renowned doctor or it has lots of fabulous before and after pictures. The best way to lose weight and to keep it off is to find what works for you and your family's lifestyle. So you will have to do some experimenting. Ask yourself what are you willing to eat less of or totally cut out? Also, don't just focus on what you can't have but also plan on eating more fruits, vegetables and legumes. Don't forget to allow yourself to "cheat" now and then. Plan your cheat meal or dessert and really enjoy and savor it. If you apply this to everything you eat you will have more of an appreciation of food and awareness that will actually lead to less emotional and binge eating. Here are five tips to help you keep the weight off: 1. Think differently don't look at this as a new diet which is temporary but as a lifestyle change. Focus on making changes for the long term you will be much more successful in the long run. 2. Make small changes. We often bite off more than we can chew even though we have lots on our plate so make small goals and take each day one day at a time. For example, you may have kid friendly snacks in the house but not "diet friendly" snacks. Put together your own mom friendly healthier snacks. Try it out on your kids too. You never know they may like it! 3. Be flexible and realize this is a journey. This is process of learning more about yourself and what you like and don't like. Don't fall into the trap of what you feel you should be doing but focus on what is important to you and what works for you and your family. There isn't just one right way. 4. Be Realistic you will start to feel better before you notice a physical change. Rejoice in feeling better knowing the external changes will soon follow. 5. Rethink Your Exercise as moms we have very little time for exercise. On top of that we probably are still reminiscing the days when we use to exercise more regularly which was probably when you had no kids or less kids. Focus on what you can do today with the lifestyle you have. You could find a gym that has daycare or if your kids are too young or there isn't a gym with day care trade babysitting service with another mom. Also, if you can only initially fit fifteen minutes of exercise in don't discount this. Exercise is all about moving and dong more than what you've been
