Here are some of the best sights to see: Canal Cruise Amsterdam's intricate canal system is often referred to as 'The Venice of the North', with up to 100km of waterways stretching underneath more than 1500 bridges. Tour boats cruise along the central network, which consists of Herengracht, Prinsengracht, and Keizersgracht canals and is one of the most popular tourist attractions the Dutch capital has to offer. Café Culture Amsterdam is famous for its 'coffee shops', which sell cannabis legally, but it also play host to a multitude of cafes where you can just find a nice cup of coffee. Hard to spot amongst the less savory variety it can be useful to know where to go before you arrive in the city. Cafe De Jaren has one of the best terraces in the city sitting right along the Amstel River on Nieuwe Doelenstraat. Quirky Cafe De Sluyswacht on Jodenbreestraat is a popular haven for tourists as not only is it in a prime spot overlooking the river but also it has an obscure leaning façade, which dates back from when it was a lockkeeper's house. Cycling the city The best method of transport in Amsterdam is a bicycle. Easy to hire, easy to use and easy to navigate on, the humble bicycle has everything you need to mauve over bridges and along canals and past some of the most luxurious hotels in Amsterdam. One of the most bicycle friendly cities in the world, there are enough cycle paths, flat terrain and facilities to ensure no ride rage here.
