Here's a breakdown of what to look for in these most sought after games. Citi Rose Bowl Details - Ohio State v. Oregon This matchup comes down to two of the best two-loss teams in the nation in a battle of the ferocious Ohio State defense facing off against Oregon's potent offense, one of the most explosive in the country. While both teams have had their ups and downs, Ohio State has seemed to have to found themselves in a fight much more often. And, although the Big Ten is clearly a better league than the lack-luster Pac-10, Oregon has appeared stronger for longer and on a most consistent basis. I figure this to be a pretty tight, but somewhat boring matchup leading to an Oregon Ducks victory. Prediction - 24-17 Oregon. Allstate Sugar Bowl: Details - #3 Cincinnati v. #5 Florida Somehow, despite their inept defense, arguably the nation's best offense has keep the Cincinnati Bearcats undefeated and moved them to the number 3 ranking. However, with both an outstanding defense and one of the country's most dynamic players in Tim Tebow, the Bearcats haven't seen anything close to this Florida Gators team. Honestly, I don't know what the BCS voters where thinking when they decided to pit these two against one another. Prediction - 56-28 Florida. Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Details - Boise State v. Texas Christian (TCU) Possibly the most intriguing matchup of all, these two mid-major powerhouses, often snubbed by the voters, should put on a great show. The TCU Horned Frogs have literally dominated just about every opponent they've faced along the way while the Boise State Broncos, one of my all-time personal favorite teams, lead the nation in scoring. Despite the fact that the Broncos have topped some elite competition (i.e. their win over Oregon in week one), the squad from TCU has faced more quality opponents without any real close calls. Therein lies the difference. Prediction - 38-35 TCU.
Slide 2: Fed Ex Orange Bowl: Details - Georgia Tech v. Iowa The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets play in a dilapidated ACC while the Iowa Hawkeyes have seemed to be play in a fashion more fitting of Notre Dame - luck of the Irish. No doubt the boys from Iowa are a strong team, but after going undefeated well into the 2009 season, the bounces did eventually stop going their way. So, while the ACC has been utterly pathetic in BCS matchups this decade, I see Georgia Tech putting one in the win column for that shaky conference. Prediction - Georgia Tech 24-21. Citi National Championship game: Details - #1 Alabama v. #2 Texas Last but not least, the National Championship, at least as the voters see it. While the SEC's Alabama Crimson Tide play in arguably the best conference in the nation, the team didn't really impress me until their win in the conference championship. The knock-down drag-out running game and beastly defense is no doubt - for real. Texas has worked its way through a tough Big 12 with a few close calls but averaging more than 40 points per game. The Longhorns have been on this stage before in recent years and may have an advantage in that regard. However, unlike the opponent they faced in the Nebraska Corn Huskers, Alabama has a capable quarterback in Greg McElroy who can also beat you with the pass. That is, if Mark Ingram doesn't have his way with your defense. I expect a fairly lopsided win for the new National Champion Alabama Crimson Tide. Prediction - 35-10 Alabama.
