Slide 1: Fads are all the rage. Even though they for swimming pools have been around for a quite a long time now, people are just starting to catch on. The fact that saltwater pools have hit the mainstream only makes the idea more appealing. If you have been thinking about putting in a saltwater system for your pool, it may be beneficial. Here are a few frequently asked questions to help you make your decision. Does a saltwater pool contain a lot of salt? No. This is a common misconception actually. Saltwater pools are not like the ocean. The actual amount of salt in a saltwater pool is very low. In a saltwater pool, you will not smell, feel or taste the salt in the water. You won't even notice that it is there. Ocean water contains about 35,000 parts per million of salt while salt levels of saltwater pools contain only 3,000 parts per million. Ocean water is 10 times saltier than a saltwater pool. How do saltwater systems work? These are also referred to as "chlorine generators", because they actually generate chlorine naturally and without having to add any chemicals. Saltwater systems disperse chlorine throughout the pool through a circulation pump. The chemical formation of chlorine is pretty simple. Salt combined with water to produce a low-level electrical charge inside them resulting in sodium hydroxide, which then changes to hypochlorous acid. This combination eliminates bacteria and algae from the pool water while it produced consistently through the system because of this process. What are the benefits of saltwater systems? Saltwater systems produce a softer, cleaner and fresher body of water. The water in a saltwater pool will not cause skin irritation, itchy eyes, red eyes or damage to hair. You can also save money by not having to purchase chlorine on a regular basis. Furthermore, you don't have to worry about storing or handling chlorine, which can be hazardous to your health. How much do saltwater systems cost? The cost of saltwater systems for pools varies. In today's market, most will cost anywhere from $2,000 to $5,000. When you factor in time, convenience and the money you save on chlorine, they will pay for itself in the long run. What are some problems with saltwater systems? They can damage your pool equipment, pool liner, and stonework. There are many studies that are showing that saltwater pool systems ruin your pool equipment overtime.
Slide 2: Where can I purchase a saltwater system? You can purchase a saltwater system at most pool stores or pool supply companies. Do a little research on them before you buy one. There is plenty of information on the Internet. The staff at your local pool store or at larger pool companies should also be knowledgeable about them.
