Slide 1: Healthy KidFriendly Sweet Snacks Whether packed in a lunchbox or enjoyed as an anytime treat, these kidapproved recipes are both nutritious and delicious. Healthy Treats Let's face it, kids love sweets. So instead of surrendering to prepackaged goodies, give them a homemade recipe that can serve as a sweet snack or even dessert. We brought a panel of kid judges into the MyRecipes kitchen to taste these recipes (all received rave reviews). Little did the kiddies know that these treats are packed with whole grains, fruit, and other nutritious ingredients. Peanut Butter Oat Bites Hiding behind this recipe's guise of peanut butter and chocolate chips are raisins, honey, and oats. At just 20 cents per serving, the bites make excellent healthy snacks for a birthday celebration or neighborhood block party.
Slide 2: Hello Dolly Bars These lightened bar cookies are all about the numbers! 24: Servings this recipe yields—perfect for bake sales or class parties. 45: Minutes it takes (maybe less!) to make. 123: Calories per serving— surprisingly low for a sweet sensation that scored the highest rating with our kid judges. Stop dieting. ..Start Eating...and Start Living! Monkey Bars If Woody's reaction to these treats is any indication of how yummy they are, you should bake a batch before the kids get home! Kid judge Darby added, "This tastes like banana-nut bread."
Slide 3: Oatmeal-Pecan Snack Cookies Surprise your kids by giving them cookies for breakfast! You'll get the award for Coolest Mom, and they'll get nuts, oats, and fruit in these less-than-100-calorie cookies. For a flavor twist, try adding an assortment of dried fruits or chocolate morsels for even sweeter snacks. Stop dieting. ..Start Eating...and Start Living! Peanut Butter Cranberry Go-Bars Instead of hitting the drive thru during endless carpooling, carry these homemade energy bars on the road. While you're in baking mode, why not make multiple batches? This recipe freezes well and is a great go-to snack.
Slide 4: Taste Testing, Kid Style To find out what kids really want, we called on a panel of boys and girls ages 4 to 11 and asked them to taste, rate, and critique the following recipes. Based on our taste testing, the key to getting kids to eat their veggies was adding a simple sauce or extra flavor to ordinary produce. We learned that although their taste buds are small, they are mighty! Stop dieting. ..Start Eating...and Start Living! Maple-Glazed Carrots Covered in sweet maple syrup, the kids fell for these not-so-plain carrots. And with only three ingredients, they're a quick and easy pick for you, too. "It's sweet and doesn't even taste like carrots," says Jaime, 11. "I would eat them with rice."
