Not long ago I attended a 2 day seminar with Hal Perkins for a course titled "If Jesus Were A Parent", based on his book by the same name. Beyond the enlightening ways to successfully disciple to my children to guide them into society as disciples of Christ, I came to realize that much of his content was true for a MLM business opportunity too. Before I get too far with this post, it is not my intention to cause offense with the concept of building an analogy between Christian discipleship and MLM organization building. Stick around a few minutes and you'll see the parallel... As Hal went over many different aspects about how to take the principles of discipleship into everyday life, I was astounded at how much of a cross over there is with a relationship building business such as network marketing. The central part of the message was that there needs to be implementation of basic principles of listening to others on a regular basis to help them achieve their goals. If you desire that your children become disciples of Christ, you need to foster a relationship with Christ. They require careful attention and education regularly through their youth until they have the knowledge to also become disciples. Your networking business is a relationship based business within which you lead and teach your reps the necessary information they need to go out fully capable of succeeding on their own. Unlike raising kids, however, you are not likely to require 18 years to prepare your business reps. Here's the comparison I mentioned earlier: the act of discipling is to create disciples. The word "leader' can be substituted for disciple, because your main goal in building a lucrative MLM business is to create leaders who have successful organizations too. Leaders must know how to teach their reps how to market, what to use to market, what it is they're marketing, and how to use their marketing tools effectively. This is the basis of a strong business - as it is the corner stone of the church... Create leaders who will go out and create more leaders. The purpose is self replication through leadership/discipleship. It's very hard to efficiently disciple large groups of people at a time. In small groups you can work closely very effectively, building the relationships and focusing on educating those team reps to be as complete and strong as possible. But, when you educate a large group of people due to a focus on quantity rather than quality, your reps start slipping through the cracks and your effectiveness is lost. The analogy here would be that your organization would be the "Sunday Christians" of MLM. Your meetings and events get them motivated to "go forth and sell", but they lack the ability to follow through and can't build their

Important to discipling is the ability to listen to your disciples, hear what their needs are, and provide attention to their needs such as you build the individual according to their abilities. Your task is to fully prepare them for the act of becoming disciples on their own. In the relationship business of network marketing, your downline members need your listening and teaching -not preaching - to become leaders who can replicate. Success will happen for your team - and effectively explode your business - when your team members can teach others. Think of your job in networking as that of a disciple. Create more disciples. Watch them create disciples. And on, and on and on. Sounds divine...
