Slide 11: RAW MATERIALS AND FINISHED GOODS Raw Materials Required – Limestone, Sand, Shale, Clay, Coal and Iron ore. Finished Goods 1) Ordinary Portland Cement a)43 Grade Cement b) 53 Grade Cement 2) Blended Cement a)Fly-ash based Portland Pozzolana Cement Cement 3) Ready Mix Concrete 4) Bulk Cement 5) Refractory products such as Brown Tabular Alumina. 11/24/10 b)Portland Slag
Slide 12: PRODUCTION PROCESS 1) Raw Material Acquisition --Limestone is blasted at the site and carried to the crushing area. Crushing -- Material is crushed to a maximum size of 4 inches (100mm). The crushed material is then sampled to ascertain the quantities of iron oxide, alumina and silica required to make ideal chemical composition. Pre-Homogenization Process – Initial blending happens at this stage. The raw materials are then stored in horizontal layers before being reclaimed vertically. Raw Grinding – The blended raw material and final addictives are introduced to a ball mill or vertical roller mill where they are dried and ground into a fine powder know as KILN FEED. 11/24/10 1) 1) 1)
Slide 13: 7) Clinker cooler and Storage – The clinker cooler is used to cool down the clinker to bring it to the acceptable level while recovering the heat to increase the thermal efficiency of rotary kiln. The cooled kiln is then stored. 8) Cement Grinding – The clinker is ground into a fine powder in a ball mill along with the final addictives such as gypsum, flyash or slag. The percentage of these addictives and fineness of the final product determines the different types of cement produced. 9) Control Room – Control room operators oversee and control the entire manufacturing process using computers to display process information and manipulate process equipment. 11/24/10 10) Lab – The samples are accumulated from each

Applicants are generally invited on the basis of specific advertisements in newspapers and websites. B) Performance Management -- Incentives include Performance Linked Incentives, Good Work Awards, Letters of Appreciation, Special Increments, Promotions, Nomination to external training programmes in India and abroad, public felicitation and appreciation. Some plants have Best Employee and Employee of the Month Awards and recognition. Competent employees and those who display aptitude are invited to become Trainers themselves and receive Train the Trainer facilitation. C) Training & Development – Training requirements of the employees are taken care of by assessment at regular intervals. Employee consultation and participation in organizational development and policy formulation is taken seriously. 11/24/10
Slide 16: MARKETING STRATEGY A) Target Audience – Infrastructure , industrial projects and commercial activities contribute around 14-15% growth whereas individual home building contributes 7-8%. So aggressive selling strategy is applied for industrial sales. Per capita consumption – In India per capita consumption of cement is 150 kgs per person per year. China = 900-1000 kgs per person and Malaysia is at 500 kgs per person. This leaves high headroom for growth. ACC is targeting rural housing construction with cement concrete bricks. Conservation of heritage structures – Restoration of CST, J N Petit, David Sassoon Library in Mumbai. Churches in Goa, palaces and royal mansions in Mysore and Hyderabad. This helps in brand building. Acc help – Specialized car that travels around the city/town. People from areas far away can call up the customer care and the acc executives reach the place in this specialized car. 11/24/10 A) A) A)
