Slide 1: NOW YOU’RE READY FOR THE WORLD
Slide 2: Life is a journey where adventures beckon at every turn. And when they happen, one camera captures all of these moments brilliantly. The Canon EOS 500D. With a 15.1-megapixel sensor, 3.4 fps continuous burst, and Face Detection Live View shooting, this versatile performer handles every situation effortlessly. If photos aren’t enough, switch it to Full HD (1920 x 1080) recording mode to shoot stunningly detailed HD videos. It’s simply the perfect companion for your travels. So go forth and explore. DESTINATION: EVERYWHERE. The world is waiting for you. EOS is the #1 DSLR brand in Asia*. Source: GfK Asia, 2008 Asia is defined as China (30 cities), Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea (8 regions), Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia (4 cities), Australia, New Zealand, India (10 cities), Philippines and Vietnam (2 regions).
Slide 3: 05 Explore new frontiers in DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY DIGIC 4: Setting a New Standard in Digital Photography Greater Color Range with 14-bit Processing Powers Intelligent New Camera Features The advanced technology found in DIGIC 4 allows the EOS 500D to incorporate new features such as the Auto Lighting Optimizer, Face Detection Live Mode AF, and Full HD movie recording. These intelligent features enhance your overall shooting experience, so shooting is fun and hassle-free. Cutting-edge 15.1-megapixel CMOS sensor The EOS 500D features an advanced CMOS sensor with a class-leading 15.1-megapixel resolution. This APS-C size sensor (1.6x lens crop factor) produces high-quality images that capture everything — from the tiniest details to the finest color gradations. At 15.1 megapixels, you can easily make high-resolution prints of your favorite photos even after cropping out unwanted elements. The sensor’s superior sensitivity also allows it to capture brilliant images in low light and during high-speed shooting. Simply put, every image comes out picture perfect. A camera as exceptional as the EOS 500D is only possible with the DIGIC 4 image processor. This next-generation processor truly sets the benchmark for years to come. On top of its trademark high-speed image rendering and natural color reproduction, DIGIC 4 provides remarkable signal processing speeds and improved image quality, and also powers several new innovative camera features. To achieve finer gradation and smoother tonal expression, the processor’s 14 bit A/D conversion process delivers rapid processing speeds while maintaining fine detail and accurate color reproduction. The difference DIGIC 4 brings is clearly seen when shooting in the RAW file format, and even after JPEG conversion.
Slide 4: 07 SUPERIOR IMAGING performance with every shot Capture gorgeous night scenery with brilliant clarity Because great shots can happen at night too, you’ll be glad to know the EOS 500D captures amazing images in low light conditions thanks to a superior CMOS sensitivity. With ISO speeds ranging from 100 to 3200 (expandable to 6400 & 12800), you can capture ambient light without having to use harsh flash light. High ISO speeds also means you can use faster shutter speeds in low-light environments, thus reducing the possibility of blur images due to camera shake. In addition, 4 levels of High ISO Speed noise reduction keeps noise to a minimum to ensure improved image quality. Freeze the Moment with Superb High-Speed Shooting Whether it’s a thrilling traditional dance or heart-stopping sports action, the EOS 500D’s high-speed continuous shooting mode lets you capture them all. By combining the high-performance shutter unit with DIGIC 4, the camera can fire off 3.4 frames per second at maximum resolution. Continuous burst rates of 170 frames (JPEG: Large/Fine)* or 9 frames (RAW)* are possible. Unbeatable 9-Point Focusing Accuracy The perfect shooting opportunity can happen anytime. And when it does, the EOS 500D’s high-precision 9-point AF system helps you capture the moment with razor sharp focus. All 9 points are spread across the frame to provide a wider coverage area, thus giving you more flexibility in composing your shots. The f/2.8 AF sensors used in the AF system deliver more accurate focusing, allowing them to easily detect tiny differences in subject movement and can also focus quickly on fast moving subjects. When using fast lenses with apertures of f/2.8 and faster, the center AF point becomes sensitive for even greater focusing precision. * Figures are based on Canon’s testing standards using a 2GB card.
Slide 5: 09 Get a new perspective with LIVE VIEW SHOOTING Image Verification has Never Been Easier Focus on Your Subject, Easily In Live View shooting mode, the EOS 500D offers 3 enhanced AF modes for you to choose from. Quick Mode Uses the camera’s 9-point AF system to locate the subject, during which there will be a brief “black-out” of the Live View image. This AF is faster, making it appropriate for capturing action or for shooting in low light conditions. Live Mode Suitable for close-up shots and timed exposures, this mode uses the camera’s CMOS image sensor for contrast detection autofocus, so there is no interruption of live view. Face Detection Live Mode Similar to Live Mode AF, the CMOS sensor uses contrast detection to locate the position of faces and locks focus on them. Together with Auto Lighting Optimizer, Face Detection AF ensures proper exposure and focusing on subjects’ faces. etection th Face D smile wi mee t und to y lovely ever ou’re bo of world, y li a n c e Capture ring the t h e b r il lo t t ex p g y tha nk s to ou’re ou technolo le . By showing real-time images on the EOS 500D’s high-resolution LCD screen, you are no longer restricted to the viewfinder when framing your shots. This means you can position the camera high or low for more creative shots. And thanks to a 170° viewing angle in all directions, the screen maintains high visibility no matter how you shoot. Live View shooting maximizes the capabilities of the larger LCD’s screen to allow easier image verification. To achieve better composition, 2 types of grids can be displayed on the screen. You can also conveniently magnify the real-time on-screen image by 5 or 10 times to double-check that your subject is in focus. In addition, the camera can simulate different level of exposures in real-time by adjusting the brightness of the LCD screen. What this means is that you only need one try to get the shot you want. All settings can be changed via the Live View function settings menu for greater convenience.
Slide 6: Full HD 1920 x 1080 Movie Recording Some stories can’t be told by just a photograph or two. And when such a situation arises, it’s good to know the EOS 500D does videos superbly as well. Not just videos, but Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution videos — a first for DSLRs in its class. Some may ask, why use a camera to capture videos? Why not? In fact, you gain several advantages shooting videos with the EOS 500D. First up is the EOS 500D’s superior 15.1-megapixel CMOS sensor. Due to its higher sensitivity, it captures beautiful scenes even at night with minimal noise. Furthermore, the array of interchangeable lenses available for the EOS 500D enables you to capture an intriguing variety of shots. Fancy a nice background blur? Switch to a large aperture lens. Or use a telephoto lens to get closer to the action.
