It's hard to believe there was a time when the internet didn't exist, that people had to look in the phone book for numbers. When it was invented and began expanding and welcomed in to everyone's homes the traditional marketing methods became less popular. But Is Traditional Marketing Still As Important As Ever? I would have to argue both sides, on the one hand studies show that internet marketing is more effective than traditional ways of advertising. But still when the Superbowl comes around companies dish out millions upon millions of dollars for television ads. Most of the time when consumers go to purchase a product such as a car, they research it online and compare prices and features. Yet it may have been those television advertisements that made them search Chrysler.com to look for cars. Traditional marketing planted the idea but internet expanded it. Though, a lot of television advertisements can now be found online. Certain websites play television right off the computer for free which means businesses are now paying for online television advertisements. Another good sign that traditional marketing is still alive are billboards. Go through any large area or city and you see dozens if not hundreds of huge billboards advertising miscellaneous products or services. Even if it is subconscious, the product logo and company are planted in your head, the large signs with gigantic images on them are kind of hard to miss. Also we still get phone books on our doorsteps every six months or so. This means that businesses are still paying for advertisements, enough for everybody to get their free phone book. So when asked Is Traditional Marketing Still As Important As Ever, I would have to answer yes and no. Traditional marketing is still important in capitalism and advertisements, but with the internet taking off in the past decade it has kind of taken the back seat. That doesn't mean it will dissipate completely, it just means that there is a new sheriff in town.
