Slide 1: Know More about ECG electrodes: Life Saving Devices There is absolutely no dispute that the electrodes that work hand in hand with the ECG machine are very important at saving lives. This is because of the way these tools assist doctors and nurses to monitor the condition and progress of a patient whose life is at stake. Basically, the electrodes perform an interpretation of the heart’s electrical activity. It does the monitoring for a certain period of time while at the same time giving graphical readings on the patient’s progress and this is what doctors use to analyze the patient. The electrodes attached to the ECG are very sensitive at detecting the heart performances and any changes, either positive or negative will be displayed. For them to be able to detect every heart activity, they have to be placed strategically so that they don’t miss anything. There are measures taken to ensure that the patient is not uncomfortable but other than that, it works just fine. The electrodes amplify any notable changes regarding the heart’s pulse rate. When the machine is in use, the electrodes used have to be more than two. The electrodes are designed to work in twos; when one is placed on the left arm, the other should go on the right arm. The output produced from each pair is usually referred to as a lead and each lead usually analyzes the heart in a different manner. The model of the machine is what determines the number of leads that will be available as it all depends on the size of the ECG machine and its use. For an ECG machine with 12 leads, it will usually record twelve different and independent signals while displaying results at approximate the same time. It is very important to use an electrocardiograph to keep an eye on patients especially those who have heart issues. Thanks to its sensitivity, the electrodes are able to closely analyze the heart condition of a patient with a very low heart beat. It will also monitor abnormal rhythms that may be caused by electrolyte imbalances. Myocardial infractions are the other cases that the ECG machine is able to monitor. It is able to identify some of the specific areas of the damaged heart muscle. The limb electrodes should be placed in accordance with the medical laws so as to ensure that no complications arise as the set standards are ideally the correct means.
