MEMS Oscillator – Benefits of MEMS Oscillator
Over the past decade, Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) have been very widely adopted in electronics. While they started out as life-saving components in the Automotive industry (air-bag sensors, tire pressure monitoring systems), they have recently been adopted by many consumer electronic devices such as SmartPhones, Tablets, Digital Cameras, gaming systems, etc.

Improving System Performance and Frequency Stability with New VCXOs
Oscillators provide a consistent and stable timing reference for an electronic system or for a module(s) within the system. In some applications, the output frequency of the oscillator needs to be adjusted after the system is in operation.

The Unique Features and Benefits of Silicon MEMS Differential Oscillators
A differential oscillator is used as reference timing sources in very high performance electronic systems. Typically, differential oscillators have a frequency in excess of 100 MHz, though frequencies below that are also occasionally used.

What is a VCXO? Why is a VCXO used in Electronics?
A VCXO – Voltage Controlled Oscillator – is a reference timing component that is commonly used in telecom, consumer and industrial electronics. A VCXO differs from an XO (Oscillator) in that it offers an capability to “fine-tune” the output frequency within a certain range, after the device is already populated in a system. This capability is not available on XOs.

Features and Applications of MEMS Clock Generators
Clock Generators are timing components which integrate the clock functionality of many different discrete devices into one semiconductor component. They offer the traditional semiconductor benefits of integration, lower cost, smaller size, and full customization with minimal additional expenses.

What is a TCXO Timing Component? Why is it Important in Electronics?
"A TCXO is a Temperature Compensated Oscillator. The frequency stability (variation of frequency) of quartz oscillators varies significantly with temperature changes."

Voltage Controlled Oscillator – Usage of Voltage Controlled Oscillators
A voltage controlled oscillator is a timing component that allows the fine tuning of a clock frequency within an electronic system, thus allowing a receiving system to be synchronized with a transmitting system that is not at the same location.

Voltage Controlled Oscillators- Fine Tuning The Communication Systems
A Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCXO) is a component for reference timing used in virtually all wireless systems. A VCXO has the capability to fine-tune the output frequency within a certain range, even after the device is already populated in a system.

What is a Differential Oscillator? Where can it be used in Electronics?
Differential oscillators are usually used to provide higher frequencies in very high performance systems where single-ended clocks do not perform well, such as the examples listed above. Typically, differential oscillators are used at frequencies above 100 MHz, because the rise times of differential clocks are usually much faster, and can support these high frequencies.

MEMS Oscillators Outperform LC Oscillators
SiTime’s MEMS oscillators simplify system designs and open the door to new applications. Though an LC oscillator will operate at any frequency within its range, they do not operate beyond approximately 200 MHz. SiTime’s single-ended LVTTL/CMOS compatible MEMS oscillators operate at any frequency up to 220 MHz and the differential oscillator family expands the frequency to 800 MHz.
