White Washed New Zealand caught short again

New Zealand struggled to stay in touch with Australia for the full five days and lost both Tests convincingly. There were highlights in the performances of Brendon McCullum, Ross Taylor and Daniel Vettori, but there remains room for a lot of improvement.

Taylor blazes hundred but can't burn off Australia...

Ross Taylor raced to New Zealand's fastest Test century but the hosts failed to support their red-hot team-mate and the sides finished almost level after two days. New Zealand earned a slender 33-run advantage after Taylor's 138 off 104 balls took them towards 264, a first-innings total which could have been so much stronger.

Simon Katich's bat leads Australia 300 Runs

After two days of frenetic activity, Simon Katich returned the game to Test pace and his important, grafting century led to a commanding lead of 300 with six sessions to play. Australia batted poorly in the first innings but Katich virtually eliminated risk during a gutsy 106 that put his side on track for a total of 333 for 4.
