How to convert MOV file to MP4 on Mac (Snow Leopard included)

Although MOV is highly compatible with Mac OS X, however, some MOV files just can’t be opened in QuickTime or there is just the sound but no picture, like MOV footage from JVC GY-HM100, or some particular MOV files can’t be streamed to Apple TV.
