The QiLin is a mystical Chinese creature which dates back to the Ming Dynasty. The time of the QiLin's first references date back to the travels of Zheng He which have left many to believe that the QiLin is loosely based on the giraffe. Zheng He returned from his travels in Africa with 2 giraffes which be presented to the Royal Court in Beijing.
